Weekend eating recap

Wow, what a gorgeous weekend to be in town!

Today made me wonder if I was really living on the East Coast.  The weather has been amazing for the past 3 days and I’m dreading the thought of spending most of my waking hours indoors tomorrow :(  Boohoo!

Onto a weekend recap and eatery recommendations.  I’m going to limit my verbiage to one sentence for each exciting new restaurant.

Taste of Georgetown: hot and crowded, restaurants didn’t anticipate the crowds well at all and waiting 10 minutes for the new batch of food to show up was common.  Los Cuates: Big huge fajita portions, pretty good quality but lacked in the spices category.  Sea Catch had super yummy shrimp puffs!  Then I opted out.  We walked over to Logan Circle for some sister bday shopping and Mr. Yogato (I had to opt out due to a fear of sugar overload) :)  Then back to the neighborhood for some always yummy Hello Cupcake (gluten free pumpkin spice is outta this world!)

We went for some flavored rum wine tasting at the impressive new local liquor store on P St.  Also met Hello Cupcake’s owner, Penny, there–she’s awesome!  Channeling my Parisien drink memories, we purchased some overpriced (grrrr, TJ’s sells the bottle for $20 less) Veuve Cliquot Rose :)  Saving that to reward momma when she visits to help us work the Marine Corps Marathon booth.  Had a predictable dinner at Thaiphoon, white pepper garlic shrimp was very lean and light—a refreshing thai dinner surprise!

We woke up to meet some friends for brunch at Leopold’s Kafe.  I had the perfectly delicious smoked trout brunch special, absolutely tasty!  Why we’ve never ventured down to Cady’s Alley in our 4 years living here is beyond me—man, we’re morons.  There are so many cute stores and cafes down there and it’s a home away from home!  Cady’s alley and the newly expanded waterfront park area are a great getaway from the tourists crowding M St.  I highly recommend chillin down there.  We finished the afternoon off with a shared strawberry cupcake from Baked and Wired (memorable takeaway bags say “Get Baked”) and we think it’ll be our go-to cupcake choice when west of 25th…Hello Cupcake is still our #1.  I also tried the peach black tea (lots of teas, coffees, pies, and other baked goods to choose from at Baked & Wired) and it makes me wonder why I’m silly enough to buy the chai at Sbux.
